BANGKOK, Thailand – A customer allegedly punched an insurance company employee inside a police station in Bangkok’s Sai Mai district after becoming angry over a delayed claim document, prompting officers to quickly intervene. Sai Mai Police Chief Pol. Col. Natthaphong Kiram said the incident occurred at 7:06 p.m. on July 28 after a customer arrived at Sai Mai Police Station with an insurance employee following a dispute over a vehicle accident claim.
The customer had earlier filed a claim after an accident in Soi Sai Mai 56, but the insurance employee refused to immediately issue a claim document after questioning the timing of the policy purchase. The policy had reportedly been bought online only a few hours before the accident, leading the company to request that the customer first make a police record as evidence.
When the two parties arrived at the station, the customer allegedly became angry, accusing the insurance employee of avoiding issuing the claim document. The customer then approached and punched the employee in the face before police officers stepped in to stop the confrontation.
During the commotion, the customer left the station and returned home. The injured insurance employee later filed a complaint for physical assault and was sent to hospital for a medical examination.
Police said they have identified the suspect and are contacting him to provide a statement and acknowledge the charges. Investigators are also looking into whether there had been any earlier arguments between the two parties. Pol. Col. Natthaphong urged people to remain calm during disputes, saying such incidents should not occur inside a police station. He also praised officers for quickly controlling the situation and preventing it from escalating.
