The unidentified westerner, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and shorts, was held by staffers of a Soi Boonsamphan store until police arrived June 28.

Witness Nipitpon Umita, 20, said the foreigner fell off a roof of a building, picked himself up and walked away as nothing had happened. Store clerks followed in pursuit.

They told police the farang had stolen two bottles of booze and then escaped from the upper floor, jumping across three roofs, damaging each one before falling to the ground.

The suspect confessed, police said, and asked if he would be deported, something he wanted as he missed his homeland but apparently didn’t have the resources to return.

Police did not oblige, as the store owner did not press charges on condition the suspect didn’t steal again.
