Elderly driver’s stuck accelerator sends pedestrian crashing into fence in Sattahip, leaving him in critical condition.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Police received an urgent report of a car striking a pedestrian in Sattahip, Chonburi Province at 12:20 p.m. on October 27. The incident occurred behind a convenience store at the Sattahip Morning Market, directly across from Ban Sattahip School.

Pol. Capt. Thanit Thiphakdee, Deputy Investigation Officer of Sattahip Police Station, along with rescue teams from Arpakornkiatwong Hospital at Sattahip Naval Base and Sawang Rojanathammasathan Foundation, quickly responded to the scene.

Authorities found a 57-year-old male pedestrian, identified as Amnuay, trapped between a bronze-gold Toyota Corona and a metal wire fence. He suffered severe head injuries and was immediately transported to Somdejphranangklao Hospital for Naval Medical Services in critical condition.

The driver, 64-year-old Mrs. Boonthun, appeared in shock. She told police that she had been at the market to repair her mobile phone and, while preparing to drive home, the accelerator of her vehicle became stuck. This caused the car to lunge forward, striking the pedestrian and pinning him against the fence. Mrs. Boonthun stated she did not notice any prior mechanical issues with the vehicle.

Police recorded the incident as evidence and sent the driver for medical evaluation, noting her pre-existing heart condition. She will also be questioned further as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

Authorities urge motorists, especially elderly drivers, to remain vigilant and maintain vehicles regularly to prevent similar accidents.
