Chonburi’s police chief bemoaned the lack of regulations governing cannabis while observing a Pattaya community’s anti-drug program.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Kumpol Leelaprapaphon said March 16 that he was concerned about youths abusing marijuana due to Parliament’s failure to pass its cannabis-control law.

The government last year decriminalized cannabis before enacting regulations and laws to govern its sale and use. Ganja has now become the primary issue in the coming general election, with three of four major political parties vowing to recriminalize it.

Kumpol and top Pattaya police officers visited the Thappraya Community to observe its sustainable community projects and anti-drug program.

Community President Praphan Sodlok explained how police and neighborhood leaders plan to educate residents about the dangers of online scammers and narcotics, urging neighbors to alert police on the activities of dealers and buyers.
