BANGKOK, Thailand – Khlong Tan Police arrested a 27-year-old man within hours after he allegedly robbed a Tops supermarket on Sukhumvit 67, with investigators using CCTV footage to trace his escape route and identify the suspect. The suspect, identified as Ekasit “Keng” Prommetta, 27, was arrested under a warrant on charges of nighttime robbery while concealing his identity and using a vehicle to facilitate the crime and escape. Police also seized evidence including a black motorcycle helmet with orange and white stickers, clothing believed to have been worn during the incident, and a grey Honda Wave 125 motorcycle allegedly used in the robbery.
The incident occurred at around 4:21 a.m. on July 21, when a man wearing a helmet and black clothing entered the Tops supermarket in the Sukhumvit 67 area. He allegedly threatened staff and forced employees to open a cash drawer before taking 2,370 baht in cash and fleeing on a motorcycle. Following the report, investigators from Khlong Tan Police Station immediately reviewed CCTV footage and followed the suspect’s escape route. Their investigation led them to identify the alleged offender and locate him later the same day. Police arrested the suspect at around 5:10 p.m. in an overgrown area in Soi Sukhumvit 70, Bang Na district, Bangkok. Officers said the suspect was found attempting to remove the motorcycle’s license plate, allegedly to hide evidence connected to the crime.
Additional items, including the clothing, shoes and helmet believed to have been used during the robbery, were collected as evidence. During questioning, Ekasit reportedly confessed to the offence, telling police that financial problems and debt pressure had driven him to commit the robbery in what he described as a moment of poor judgment. Police have taken the suspect and seized evidence to investigators for further legal proceedings.
