BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has launched a safety plan for the 2026 Songkran festival as heat indices could potentially hit 40°C.
With high fuel costs expected to keep more people in the capital, the city is preparing for large crowds across 80 sites. Every venue must provide medical units and water stations, while major landmarks like ICONSIAM and CentralWorld will require mandatory pre-registration to manage attendance.
The Governor also warned against the illegal commercialization of public spaces, including the unauthorized charging of “booking fees” for street spots.
The BMA confirmed that the recent diesel shortage has eased, ensuring public services remain fully operational.
Governor Chadchart urged revelers to celebrate politely and adhere to traditional customs to ensure a safe and orderly holiday for both residents and tourists. (TNA)
