PATTAYA, Thailand – The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has coordinated with six airlines to reduce domestic airfares by 15% to 30% during the Songkran holiday, while increasing seat availability to accommodate travel demand. The measures cover travel from April 10 to 15 across 11 key routes linking Bangkok with major destinations such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui, and Hat Yai.
Participating carriers include Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and Thai VietJet. The pricing adjustments apply to 191 round-trip flights, totaling 29,685 seats, as airlines expand capacity on high-demand routes during the holiday period.
Additional steps include Bangkok Airways adding 24 special flights on the Samui route, increasing capacity by 1,680 seats, while Thai Airways has upgraded selected flights to wide-body aircraft, adding 1,428 seats. Lower-priced tickets have largely sold out due to strong demand, with fares expected to ease after the holiday period as demand declines.
Authorities said airfare levels continue to be monitored alongside cost factors such as jet fuel, which has risen sharply amid tensions in the Middle East. Passengers are advised to book early to secure lower fares, while complaints related to passenger rights can be submitted through the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand’s online system.
