SURIN, Thailand – Police are searching for two men who allegedly robbed a convenience store at knifepoint in the early hours of Saturday before escaping on a motorcycle with just over 2,000 baht in cash, despite being briefly restrained by a security guard and a store employee. The robbery occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on July 18, at a 7-Eleven branch in Saran Park. According to police, the two suspects entered the store wearing motorcycle helmets and long-sleeved clothing to conceal their identities. One of the men allegedly threatened staff with a knife while the pair forced an employee to open the cash drawer before making off with approximately 2,141 baht.
CCTV footage showed that, during the escape, a security guard and a store employee attempted to overpower the suspects, grabbing hold of them in an effort to prevent them from fleeing. A struggle followed, but the two men managed to break free before running outside and escaping on a waiting motorcycle. Following the incident, Pol. Col. Ekkapong Pholmanee, superintendent of Mueang Surin Police Station, ordered investigators to review CCTV footage from inside the store and along possible escape routes as part of an intensive effort to identify and apprehend the suspects. Police are appealing to anyone with information about the robbery or the suspects’ movements to contact Mueang Surin Police Station or local authorities. The investigation is ongoing. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
