Re: Cannot be without GPS (PM Mailbag Friday, 18 September 2015) – Just as it is against the law to use mobile phones whilst driving, GPS should come under the same rule. It was originally meant to be used in conjunction with a map in remote areas. How it made its way into the auto industry is beyond me.

To drive a vehicle you need to have your mind fully on what you are doing. Not listening to some alien voice giving instructions, and taking your eyes off the road to check your odometer. New settings or adjustments should only be made whilst stationary.

An experienced map reader could save time by doing a “rat run” through side streets, as the alien voice only knows the major routes.

Meanwhile, play with your gimmick and put other road user in danger.
