PATTAYA, Thailand – The atmosphere at Sampeng Market is already heating up ahead of Songkran, as both foreign tourists and Thai shoppers flock to buy water guns and festival gear in preparation for Thailand’s biggest water celebration.

Stalls are packed with colorful water guns of all sizes—from compact pistols to oversized high-pressure models—drawing strong interest from visitors eager to join the nationwide festivities. Protective goggles, floral shirts, and other splash-ready accessories are also flying off the shelves.

Vendors say the days leading up to Songkran are their peak sales period, with water guns among the top-selling items. Many expect spending to intensify further over the long holiday, as more international tourists arrive in Thailand to experience the country’s iconic water festival.

Songkran is traditionally celebrated in Bangkok from April 13–15, while Pattaya extends the festivities with its famous Wan Lai events from April 17–19, drawing even larger crowds after the main holiday period.
