Thailand is set to experience a significant drop in temperatures across the country, with a decrease of 2-4 degrees Celsius starting today (November 15). The upper and central regions, including Bangkok, will face strong winds, while heavy rain is anticipated to continue in the southern region.
According to the Thai Meteorological Department, a cool air mass currently over the upper part of Thailand and the South China Sea is bringing cooler mornings to the North and Northeast. The central and eastern regions of the country (including Pattaya) are likely to see scattered rain and thunderstorms.
The active northeastern monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region is expected to cause heavy rainfall in the south, raising concerns about flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and landslide-prone areas.
Marine conditions will also be affected, with waves of 1 to 2 meters in the upper Gulf of Thailand and around 1 meter in the Andaman Sea, increasing during thunderstorms. Small vessel operators have been advised to navigate cautiously.
From November 16-19, a new strong cool air mass from China will cover Thailand, initially bringing scattered thunderstorms to the northern part of the country. This will be followed by a further drop in temperatures, leading to colder weather with strong winds. The northeastern region is expected to see a temperature decrease of 5-7 degrees Celsius, the northern region 4-6 degrees Celsius, and the central and eastern regions, including Bangkok, 2-4 degrees Celsius.
