PATTAYA, Thailand – Lao Airlines received its second C909 passenger aircraft, leased from the People’s Republic of China, at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane (1 September) at 18:00 local time. The aircraft, registered RDPL-34266 and manufactured by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), will initially operate domestic flights within Laos. On Tuesday, it will fly passengers between Wattay International Airport and Xam Neua Airport in Houaphan Province.

This follows the airline’s delivery of its first C909 aircraft on 2 April 2025, registered RDPL-34229. The first jet has been operating domestic routes from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, Pakse, and Savannakhet.

Starting 2 September, the newly arrived C909 will operate its first international service, connecting Vientiane with Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (VTE-BKK). According to the flight schedule, Lao Airlines will operate two daily round-trip flights between Vientiane and Bangkok, with flight numbers QV441/442 and QV445/446.

This expansion marks a significant step in Lao Airlines’ fleet modernization and international connectivity, enhancing passenger capacity and offering more travel options between Laos and Thailand.

Pilots wave Chinese and Lao flags from the cockpit as the new C909 jet arrives at Wattay International Airport, marking the start of its first international flights between Vientiane and Bangkok.
