4 new COVID-19 cases, 1 more death – Bangkok local, 68

BANGKOK – Four more people infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were reported and one previous patient died over the past 24 hours.



Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, said the total COVID-19 cases in the country rose to 3,004 and the death toll increased to 56 on May 9.

The four new cases included one person in close contact with an earlier detected patient and another who worked in a crowded place.



Two other cases were in close contact with infected returnees from Malaysia. They were detected with pre-emptive tests in Yala province.

The new death was a self-employed Thai man aged 68 in Bangkok.

The total cases of 3,004 consisted of 1,700 in Bangkok and Nonthaburi, 94 in the North, 381 in the Central Plains, 111 in the Northeast and 718 in the South.

Of them, 2,787 recovered including three discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours.

Dr Taweesin said that global COVID-19 cases numbered 4.01 million with 276,216 deaths. Of them, 1.38 million patients recovered. (TNA)
