BANGKOK – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has sought approval from His Majesty the King to organize Royal Rice Grains Blessing and Ploughing Ceremonies on May 10 and 11 to boost the morale of farmers in the country.



Anant Suwannarat, permanent secretary of the ministry, said that the Royal Rice Grains Blessing Ceremony would be organized at the ordination hall of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in the Grand Palace on May 10 and the Royal Ploughing Ceremony was set at the Chitralada Royal Villa on May 11. The venues of the ceremonies were planned as the government is implementing many measures to control the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

His Majesty the King assigned Gen Surayud Chulanont, president of the Privy Council, to preside over both ceremonies.

The annual ceremonies were aimed at boosting the morale of local farmers at the beginning of their annual crop season. Normally the Brahmin Royal Ploughing Ceremony is organized at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground. (TNA)
