Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin emphasizes four conditions for border talks with Cambodia, including a crackdown on scammers, while defending Thailand’s sovereignty measures against alleged Cambodian human rights concerns.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeaw to raise four key conditions in upcoming negotiations with Cambodia, aimed at addressing security threats along the Thai-Cambodian border. The talks are scheduled to resume in Malaysia on October 17.

Anutin emphasized that the crackdown on online scammers operating from Cambodian territory is one of the four conditions Thailand expects Cambodia to enforce. The initiative comes as South Korea plans to pressure Cambodia to tackle scams targeting its citizens.

Commenting on Cambodian claims that Thailand’s “sonic deterrent” measures violate human rights, Anutin countered that Thai sovereignty was breached first by rockets and drones entering Thai territory. “Who’s really violating sovereignty here?” he asked, highlighting Thailand’s stance that its measures are defensive.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of supporting Thai officials, military personnel, police, and local residents involved in border operations, insisting that all actions follow the law. Regarding border operations in Sa Kaeo Province, Anutin affirmed that the military is authorized to manage disputed areas under legal frameworks, with full government backing.

If Cambodia complies with the four conditions, Anutin said, threats affecting Thailand’s security would be significantly reduced. (TNA)
