BANGKOK, 10 October 2011  – The Commerce Ministry is planning to set up a new agency focusing on trade policies and strategies.

According to Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Phuangrach, the new office will be tasked with mapping out policies and strategies so that the country can supply products that cater for the exact demand of importers.

Mr. Yanyong explained that the Commerce Ministry had never before had this kind of agency despite the fact that international trade was the country’s major economic drive, generating 16 trillion THB in value. He added that such body was common in many countries.

The Commerce Ministry will submit the plan to the Public Sector Development Commission. If approved, the proposal will be forwarded to the cabinet for consideration.
