PATTAYA, Thailand — A 33-year-old South Korean tourist has asked police to investigate after 25,000 baht in cash disappeared from his hotel room following a night out on Walking Street. Yeonho Lim, 33, accompanied by a Thai friend, brought evidence and CCTV footage to the media on Sept 14 after filing a complaint with Pattaya City Police over the missing money.
Lim said he visited an entertainment venue on Walking Street in South Pattaya on Sept 10, where he met a Thai woman whose name he did not know. He said he was already intoxicated when she approached him, and he later invited her back to his room at a hotel in Nongprue to continue drinking. After drinking together for some time, Lim became sleepy and went to bed, saying he did not expect anything unusual to happen.
When he woke at about 7 a.m., Lim checked his belongings and discovered that 25,000 baht in cash kept in his room was missing. His bag had also been opened, while the woman he had brought back to the room was no longer there. Lim said he suspected the woman might have information about the missing money and reported the matter to police, providing CCTV footage and other evidence for examination.
Pol Lt. Col. Phupha Yongyakul, deputy investigation inspector at Pattaya City Police Station, received the complaint. Officers are reviewing the available evidence, including CCTV footage, to establish what happened and identify anyone who may be involved. Lim is asking police to trace the missing cash and take legal action if the investigation establishes that a crime was committed.
