BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Watcharaphon Khaokham has presided over the opening of a workshop connecting handwoven silk producers with entrepreneurs, and witnessed the signing of two MOUs between the Department of Sericulture, Udon Thani Rajabhat University, and Phetchabun Rajabhat University to expand research and development in Thailand’s silk industry. Watcharaphon said Thai silk is one of the country’s highest-value agricultural products, and the workshop will help producers and entrepreneurs improve production, business management, marketing, and the use of modern technology to meet changing market demand and increase incomes.
The agreements will support research, technology transfer, and skills development across the silk supply chain, from mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming to production, product development, and marketing, while boosting community economies and industry competitiveness. Department of Sericulture Director-General Saranyu Poollap said the agency is advancing the industry through research, conservation, and value-added production under the ministry’s policy framework, covering production standards, farmer development, value chain expansion, and sustainability through innovation and technology.
