Anutin secures key talks with Brunei Sultan on trade, energy and food security

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met Brunei’s Sultan on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Summit, with both sides discussing expanded cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, healthcare, and investment.

KAZAN, Russia – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam has granted an audience to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Special Summit in Kazan, where they discussed expanding bilateral ties in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and public health. During the meeting, Anutin expressed his readiness to pay an official visit to Brunei and reaffirmed Thailand’s intention to work closely with the Sultanate for the mutual benefit of both countries. He also conveyed Thailand’s interest in increasing fertilizer imports from Brunei to diversify supply sources and support agricultural production.



The two sides discussed food security and agreed to pursue closer cooperation in the energy sector. Thailand also expressed its readiness to increase exports of rice and other high-quality agricultural products to Brunei. They further explored opportunities in healthcare, medical services, health and wellness tourism, human resource development, and patient referrals. Both parties also welcomed progress toward an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation, which is expected to facilitate business activities and investment. Anutin invited Bruneian private-sector investors to expand their presence in Thailand and said the two countries would continue working together to promote security, prosperity, and the well-being of their peoples.
