BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, Russian Federation, from June 17 to 18, 2026, to promote trade, investment, and energy cooperation. Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhanadirek announced that the Prime Minister will attend the summit after the cabinet meeting on June 16. He aims to use this multilateral platform to strengthen economic cooperation, cross-border investment, and energy security initiatives. The Prime Minister will depart Thailand on the afternoon of June 16, 2026, immediately after the Cabinet meeting.

During the summit, the Prime Minister will attend leaders’ meetings, engage with the ASEAN-Russia private sector, and meet with ASEAN member state leaders and Russian President Vladimir Putin. These discussions aim to advance cooperation in trade, investment, and broader economic partnerships. The Prime Minister has emphasized that participation in international forums should deliver tangible results, such as opening new markets, creating opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs, attracting investment, and enhancing Thailand’s long-term competitiveness.

Given global economic and geopolitical volatility, Thailand must expand cooperation with trade partners and economic allies to enhance stability and reduce external risks. Russia is a key player in global supply chains, especially in energy, fertilizer, and raw materials, while Thailand excels in agricultural products, food, and processed goods. The visit is expected to open new channels for Thai businesses, expand export opportunities, strengthen cooperation on energy and food security, and attract investment in sectors that support Thailand’s economic development. These initiatives aim to create jobs, increase income, and improve quality of life in the long term. (NNT)
