PATTAYA, Thailand – A transgender woman allegedly under the influence of cannabis triggered a dramatic early-morning rescue operation after jumping into the sea behind a cannabis shop on Walking Street in Pattaya on Sunday, June 14. Police from Pattaya City Police Station were alerted at 4:40 a.m. to reports of a person in distress in the water behind a cannabis dispensary in Soi 16, Walking Street. Rescue volunteers and Pattaya City special affairs officers rushed to the scene.

Authorities found the unidentified individual, who was not carrying identification, swimming in the sea and reportedly talking to herself while repeatedly diving beneath the surface. Despite repeated attempts by officers and rescuers to persuade her to return to shore, she refused and continued swimming. After nearly 30 minutes of unsuccessful negotiations, rescuers entered the water from beneath a nearby structure and safely brought her back to shore without injury. During a search of the area, officers discovered a cannabis tube on a seaside deck behind the shop, where the woman had reportedly been sitting before the incident.

A witness identified only as Ked, 49, told police she was inside the shop when the woman arrived alone and purchased a single cannabis joint. About five minutes later, witnesses heard loud screams before seeing her remove her shoes and jump into the sea. Shop employees confirmed that the woman had entered the premises, ordered one cannabis joint, and then walked to the rear of the building shortly before the incident occurred. The woman was later handed over to relevant authorities for further medical and psychological evaluation as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
