BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthampun launched the “Thais Help Thais: Reducing Living Costs” campaign at Government House to expand nationwide access to low-cost consumer goods.
The campaign involves cooperation between the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Commerce, private-sector partners, and modern trade retailers to distribute discounted household products through mobile grocery vendors. More than 3,000 consumer products will be sold at discounts of up to 58% at district offices nationwide every Friday throughout May.
During the launch event, Anutin and Suphajee promoted the mobile grocery vehicles and products included in the campaign, ranging from household cooking ingredients to vegetables and daily necessities. The program allows residents in remote communities to access lower-priced products comparable to those sold in major retail stores.
Authorities said participating mobile grocery vendors will operate under three vehicle categories: motorcycles, sidecar tricycles, and pickup trucks. The government will provide fuel subsidies ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 baht per month, depending on vehicle size, along with starter product packages for operators joining the program.
According to the Ministry of Interior, more than 10,000 mobile grocery operators registered for the campaign during the first week of May. Officials estimate the program could reduce household expenses by at least 280 million baht and benefit about 4 million households nationwide. (NNT)
