A viral clip circulating online shows a confrontation between foreign tourists and a Thai street vendor in Patong, Phuket, after an alleged refusal to pay and reported aggressive behavior, sparking widespread calls for enforcement action.

PHUKET, Thailand – A wave of public anger has erupted online after a viral video posted by the page “Jae Moi V+” showed a foreign couple allegedly refusing to pay for food and behaving aggressively toward a Thai street vendor in the Patong area of Phuket.

The clip shows what appears to be a dispute after the tourists consumed food at a street stall but refused to settle the bill when asked. The situation escalated when the male tourist, appearing visibly upset, walked back toward the vendor and allegedly spat in her direction in front of other vendors and bystanders.

In the footage, the female companion is also seen making an offensive hand gesture toward the camera before the couple walks away, seemingly without paying or resolving the dispute.

The incident quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions across social media. Many users questioned whether Thai citizens are being treated unfairly in their own country and demanded that authorities take immediate action against the individuals involved.

The post also sparked broader debate online about whether Thai law is being enforced effectively in tourist-heavy areas such as Patong, with some users comparing Thailand’s approach to stricter enforcement systems in countries like Singapore and Brunei, where disruptive tourist behavior is dealt with more severely.

The viral discussion has raised two main public concerns: first, whether authorities will track down and prosecute the individuals involved to the full extent of the law; and second, whether Thailand’s tourism policy should place greater emphasis on “quality tourists” rather than volume, in order to protect local communities and the country’s image.

As of now, the clip continues to circulate widely, while residents and social media users are awaiting an official response from Patong police and tourism authorities regarding possible legal action.
