Viral images of a supposed Phi Phi international airport—actually AI-generated—spark confusion online before being debunked by Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park.

KRABI, Thailand – Officials from Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park have dismissed viral claims that Phi Phi Island will soon have its own international airport, confirming the widely shared images are artificial and the project does not exist.

The clarification comes after a post circulated on Instagram claiming that “Phi Phi will have its very own international airport starting May 1,” accompanied by highly realistic images. The post, dated April 1, quickly gained traction online, sparking confusion among tourists and locals alike.

Park authorities stated clearly that the information is false and the images were created using artificial intelligence (AI), not photographs of any real development.

The location referenced in the images is believed to be Phi Phi Don, particularly around Ton Sai Bay and Loh Dalum Bay. Officials explained that the area is privately owned land, approximately 140 meters wide and 1,490 meters long, currently occupied by hotels, restaurants, medical facilities, and other businesses—making it unsuitable for airport construction.

Additionally, much of the national park’s terrain consists of steep limestone mountains, which are not viable for runway development or aircraft operations.

Authorities emphasized that there are no plans for an airport on Phi Phi Island and urged the public to rely only on official sources for accurate information.

They also called on social media users and tourists to refrain from sharing unverified content to prevent misunderstandings and the spread of misinformation.
