Surat Thani celebrates heritage and tourism with grand festival opening

SURAT THANI, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn presided over the opening ceremony of the 2025 Buddha Procession, Kathin, and Long-Boat Racing Festival at Wat Tham Bucha Intersection in Surat Thani Province. The event, celebrated as a grand expression of faith and unity among local communities, drew large crowds of residents, government officials, and visitors.

This year’s celebration holds special significance for the people of Surat Thani, as Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously granted royal trophies to winners in six categories. The royal recognition brought immense pride and heartfelt gratitude to the province, whose residents united in appreciation of Her Royal Highness’s benevolence.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the festival embodies the faith, culture, and unity of Southern Thai communities while serving as a bridge to local economic growth. He noted that the government is working to expand transport infrastructure to better connect travel and tourism, allowing culture and the economy to flourish sustainably.


Phiphat praised Surat Thani’s readiness to receive travelers at world-class destinations such as Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park, noting steady growth in international arrivals. With enhanced transport links connecting urban centers, airports, and ports, he said Surat Thani is well on its way to into a world-class tourism destination.

The Deputy Prime Minister invited Thais and foreigners to witness the heritage of Surat Thani at the 2025 Buddha Procession, Kathin, and Long-Boat Racing Festival, held from October 4 to 12. With vivid boat parades, Kathin ceremonies, and traditional performances, the festival stands as a joyful tribute to the province’s deep-rooted faith, culture, and unity. (NNT)
