Dr. Poj Aramwattananont says the violence is shaking investor confidence and slowing trade, but reaffirms Thailand’s commitment to keeping border checkpoints open.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Chamber of Commerce has expressed grave concern over border unrest with Cambodia, urging all parties to act cautiously to de-escalate the situation for economic stability.

Dr. Poj Aramwattananont, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, stated that the unrest on the morning of July 24th, has caused numerous casualties among both military personnel and civilians. He noted the unavoidable negative impacts on economic confidence, trade, and investment between the two countries.

The Chamber is calling for a swift resolution to maintain regional stability, security, and cooperation, which serves the mutual interests of both nations.

Regarding trade and investment, Dr. Poj affirmed that Thailand has kept its trade checkpoints open and has never had a policy to block border trade. However, security measures and the ongoing violence have led to a slowdown in economic activity. It is expected that the economy will recover once the situation returns to normal.

The Chamber concluded by sending its support to the Royal Thai Armed Forces and all security agencies protecting the nation’s sovereignty, and expressed hope for the safety of all citizens. (NNT)
