Saraburi – The Royal Thai Army staged a drill on Thursday to demonstrate the capabilities of 28 VT-4 tanks, at the army’s Adisorn Camp in Saraburi province.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Gen. Chalermchai Sitthisad, said the VT-4 tanks are of good quality and all are operational.

The army purchased the tanks for 4.9 billion baht from the People’s Republic of China in October 2017. They were procured to replace the ageing M41 tanks that were bought from the United States more than 40 years ago. The VT-4 tanks will be deployed at the 6th Cavalry Battalion in Khon Kaen province and the 21st Cavalry Battalion in Roi Et province.

The Thai army also has a plan to procure 10 more VT-4 tanks in a deal worth two billion baht.
