Pattaya police volunteers put on a friendly face for tourists during the busy season, walking beats along area beachfronts to give holiday revelers a greater sense of security.

Samran Naeprong, chief of the Tourism Police Volunteers in Jomtien, has dispatched 10 officers to patrol the 6 km Jomtien Beach shoreline, assisting tourists with problems and offering advice to keep the area clean and safe.

He said he wanted tourists to be conscious of not littering, as trash erodes the image of the beach and broken bottles can be dangerous to beachgoers. He also instructed officers to crack down on loiterers along beach promenades.

The peak of the high season brings large crowds to Pattaya, Samran said, and the police volunteers want to promote a positive image of the city.
