Rutam Copdakov is brought in for questioning.

Boonlua Chatree

A drunk Russian was arrested after allegedly groping and strangling an optical shop clerk.

Police arrived at Top Charoen Optical on Pratamnak Soi 2 May 29 to find a crowd of Thais beating on Rutam Copdakov, 45. Officers broke up the melee and charged the Russian with harassment and assault.

Shop clerk Naowarat Sooksard, 27, alleged the Russian entered the shop reeking of alcohol and inquired about prices, but did not buy anything. He then ran his hands up her legs and groped her in other areas. Terrified, she ran outside, but the suspect pursued her, grabbing and strangling her as she called for help.

Passersby came to her rescue and called police.
