More on NHS treatment
Editor;
Re: Re: NHS treatment in UK (Mailbag Friday, 30 March
2012) Free entitlement to NHS treatment has nothing to do with citizenship
nor NI Contributions. Like it or not. Apart from genuine emergencies
occurring after arrival in the UK, entitlement depends on your normal place
of residence, and assuming you are entitled to reside in the UK. Absences of
3 months are permissible.

Beach Rd. is hazardous at night
Editor;
Re: Why widen Beach Road? (Mailbag Friday, 30 March 2012)
- Beach Rd. is hazardous at night as vendors park their carts next to
overcrowded walkways especially around Soi 7, 8 and the police station.
Pedestrians must take their chances with vehicles by walking into the
street. There are excessive baht busses at night also.

Phone yakking whilst driving
Editor;
Re: Mobile phone mania (Hillary, Friday 30 March 2012) I
keep seeing Thais on motorbikes yakking on their phones while riding. I
think this is incredible and wonder if the cops see anything here? Actually
see the cops riding motorbikes w/o helmets. Setting an example? My friend 2
Ks away insists on ‘talking’ on the computer and we both have phones! Crazy
stuff.

Mosquitoes being ignored
Editor;
Re: Pattaya goes to war against mosquitoes (PM Friday, 06
April 2012). What a joke. If I had Bt1 for every time I phoned Pattaya City
Hall about the mosquito breeding ground at the two abandoned buildings at
the old bankrupted mega market development on Beach Rd Jomtien that houses
an eternal tribe of mosquitoes (and fish) in the basement I’d be rich. Not
once in three years did anyone come down and inspect / act. The same place
where the deck chair vendors got City Hall to remove all of the beach front
public seating for more than 2km because it was taking their business away.
Just a show job for the media.

Black Rob passes away
Dear Sirs,
I wonder if through the good offices of your mail column
I could say a few words about Elfrado Roberts, or Black Rob, as he
affectionately liked to be called. Five weeks ago Rob unexpectedly
encountered chest pains and after initial in-house treatment at Pattaya
Memorial Hospital returned to England. On Saturday 7th April, in the company
of his two sons, he peacefully passed away at hospital in Sheffield. Rob was
a very young 67 when lung cancer took him from us.
After spending his working life in England in the medical
world, mainly training nurses and other medical staff for the British Health
Service, Rob retired to Thailand. Once here he again took up teaching, this
time teaching his university subjects of Biology and English at
international schools.
His spare time was spent on his love of sport in general
and cricket in particular. He was a prime mover in the Pattaya Cricket Team.
He was also deeply involved with aiding children in sporting activities both
here and up county in the Nong Bua Lam Phu area.
He will be missed by his many friends, both from sports
and the quiz teams. We shall also miss the “Chilli Con Carne” he made from
time to time when wearing his chef’s hat.
May we pass to his sons, Ashley and Leon, our deepest
condolences.
Roy Harris,
On behalf of Rob’s many friends.
