closer collaboration was fixed in writing. (Photo: Aachen UAS/Pia Wilbrand)
Ulrich Werner
In September, Prof. Dr. Klaus Mackenstein, coordinator of
international programmes at the Faculty of Business, Aachen UAS (University
of Applied Sciences), visited Asian U. This month, he welcomed Asian U
President Dr. Viphandh Roengpithya together with Aachen UAS Rector Prof. Dr.
Marcus Baumann, Prof. Dr. Norbert Janz (Dean, Faculty of Business), and
Oliver Fuchs (Head, International Office). For two days, Dr. Vip got to know
Aachen UAS.
“This visit was to intensify the relations between both
universities,” said Prof. Dr. Mackenstein. The collaboration will be
extended in three steps. As a first step, both universities will exchange
students for a semester abroad from 2012.
The second stage is a double-degree between the Bachelor
of Business Administration at Asian U and the Bachelor of Arts in Business
Studies at Aachen UAS.
The third step will be the extension of the mutual

Hand to Hand celebrates Christmas

The youngsters are riveted to
Marge Grainger’s reading of a Christmas tale.
Nigel Quennell
Children at Pattaya’s Hand to Hand Foundation received a
visit from Santa Claus and some holiday snacks as the shelter celebrated its
annual Christmas party.
The Dec. 17 party began with the singing of Christmas
carols, followed by the entrance of Santa, played by Rick Bevington. He
showered them with candy before taking a seat and, one by one, giving each
of the 60 children assembled gifts.
A table full of cakes and pastries amped up the little
ones, who also enjoyed Thai food donated by Mandy from the International
School of the Eastern Seaboard and Dr. Sumalee from Banglamung Hospital.
The party was just another example of the work put in by
Hand to Hand and director Margaret Grainger. The “safe haven” is a
registered charity that works not only to get young ones off the street, but
educate Internet cafes about online threats to kids and teachers to detect
abuse.

Children wait patiently for
their turn to receive a special gift from Santa.

On December 18, members of the Canadian Jackalope
Open and the Jesters Care For Kids arrived at the Camillian Center for
the annual children’s Christmas shopping trip to Big C in Rayong. After
a quick lunch, Bill Freeman and Erle Kershaw distributed Care for Kids
t-shirts to all the children at the center, then it was off to Big C.

Erle Kershaw helps this
little one pick out a dress.
Upon arrival at the main entrance, the Camillian
Center staff took charge of the group of 80 children to give them their
instructions and directions. After an hour and a half, the shopping was
done and it was time for the Big C staff to total up all the individual
purchases and final tally. This year 64,980 baht was spent, with plenty
of happy faces on all the kids.
We would like to thank the management and staff at
Big C in Rayong for all their help in making this another memorable day
out for the children.
Finally, thanks to all the staff at the Camillian
Center for once again planning and organizing not only this shopping
trip, but all outings that the Canadian Jackalope Open and Jesters Care
For Kids provide for them.

Look at me, I’m King of
the World.

This youngster is excited
to be given a beautiful Minnie Mouse dress.

Trying to assemble this
many children for a group photo handling the lengthy store receipt is no
small task.

The large crew readies to
head out for a day of shopping.

General Manager Jorge Carlos Smith and staff from the

Principal Parichat Chuachawalit and Chonburi Deputy Education Director
Ekawat Usaneepan Dec. 9.

Ekawat Usaneepan, deputy

sharing our profits with society,” Smith said.
The Hard Rock’s charity efforts extend further than
just Ban Amphur. Smith said the hotel, through special events, ticket
sales, donation boxes and portions of room rates, raised more than 1.4
million baht in 2011.

Regent’s holds a Bed Pull for World AIDS Day 2011

Key stage 1 students
pulling Santa around the oval.
Katrin Puutsa
On Thursday December the 1st, the children and
teachers of the Regent’s Primary school participated in the annual
sponsored “Bed-Pull” around the Oval.
Ten laps of the Oval were completed with a different
teacher in the bed for each lap. It was a great success and a fun way to
raise awareness and funds for our community partner, Heartt2000, which
is a foundation run by Dr Philippe Seur to help local people affected by
HIV/AIDS.
Much to the joy of our Early Years and Key Stage 1
children, even Father Christmas turned up for his turn in the ‘bed’.

One more lap around the
oval.
