Thank you Khun Rach

Editor;

Much to our surprise the Pollution Solution Group saw this delightful 29 year old, Bangkok computer specialist, Khun Rach, Saturday, August 20, around 7:30 a.m., removing man made dangers from Jomtien Beach, while on holiday. We caught up with her to thank her, give her some ligature and ask her why! She said that she just wanted to do her part. We said bless you. She asked us for a plastic bag to put more litter in, and we only wish we could get others to think the same way, especially the others that live in the Jomtien, Pattaya area.

We are all in this neighborhood together, reach out and earn you keep, with Mother Earth.

You know you’ve been in Asia too long when…

Editor;

You know you’ve been in Asia too long when:

• You no longer wait in line, but immediately go to the head of the queue.

• You stop at the bottom of the escalator to plan your day.

• It has become exciting to see if you can get into the lift before anybody can get out.

• You’re willing to pay to use a toilet you wouldn’t go to within a kilometre of back home.

• It is no longer surprising that the only decision made at a meeting is the time and venue of the next meeting.

• You no longer wonder how someone making US$200 per month can drive a Mercedes.

• You accept the fact that you have to queue to get your number for the next queue.

• You accept without question the mechanic’s analysis that your car is “broken” and that it will cost you a lot of money to get it fixed.

• You find it saves time to stand and retrieve your cabin baggage while the plane is on final approach.

• You walk into a five-star hotel lobby unshaven and in jogging shorts, ratty t-shirt and flip-flops, without worrying what the management might think.

• You expect at least three waiters to be standing by to take your order.

• You regard it as part of an adventure when the waiter exactly repeats your order, and then the cook makes something completely different.

• A T-bone steak and rice sounds just fine.

• You habitually ignore traffic signals, stop signs and copy-watch peddlers.

• You’re not surprised when three men with a ladder show up to change a light bulb.

• You think it is normal to wait six days to get your laundry back or pay a 50% surcharge for same day service.

• Taxi drivers understand you.

• You consider that 5 kb/s is a pretty good download speed.

• You can shake your hands almost perfectly dry before wiping them on your pants.

• When crossing a busy street you believe that a limp wrist motion with your right arm creates a force field that repels oncoming traffic.

• You understand all of the above references!

Thappraya road works

Editor;

Friday August 19th issue - Mailbag - ‘The Big Dig’ from Stuart Sanders of the Pattaya Progress Association: I think it was in the last issue that there was an article that said City Hall were interested in the underpass but no-one had come up with a plausible plan to prevent flooding. Quite unusual for City Hall to think of a minor detail like that before actually going ahead, but I digress. Stuarts states, ‘Road development of Thappraya Road, an exercise of only two dimensions (Oh really) has taken something like 4 years & at great expense to Pattaya’s tourism and businesses.’ The last part is certainly very true but where on earth did Stuart get his ‘4 years’ from?

Perhaps that’s just how long he has been living in Pattaya. Someone in the association should have put him wise as to the actual time it has taken and is still taking, and it is still by no means completed.

So Mr. Stuart you can almost double the 4 years and probably add at least another 2 years, by which time contractors will have to start all over again repairing the shoddily built road and badly laid sidewalks.

A retired road engineer living in Pattaya wrote that the road would not last very long as the road foundations were so basic and unprofessional!

The only true professionals seem to be the Jet-ski scammers and the lovely ladies a lot of tourists come here to meet!

Thank you for an always interesting Pattaya Mail.

Medical costs might become more affordable

Dear Editor,

I have been told when this new hospital opens in Pattaya at the end of next year, the medical costs for the retirement visa people will be more affordable as many people can’t afford the present hospitals in this district. Medical insurance for many is hard to get because of age or past complaints, so if this is true it will be good because a lot more will retire here.
