Professional photographer Alan Strutt has just finished
shooting the winners of the UK Bikini Babe 2009 contest in Pattaya. The
shoot took place on Koh Larn, and photographer, models and crew stayed in
Pattaya.
The winning girls shown here are, from left to right: Hollie Dowding (1st
runner up), Andrianna Christofi (2nd runner up) and Stacey Hannant (Winner).
The images will be used for a calendar which was part of the prize for the
winners who spent 4 days in Pattaya and 3 days in Bangkok.

Loy Krathong celebrations will kick off early with Nong Nooch Tropical
Garden celebrating the annual festival with help from top Sattahip government
officials and some clever elephants.
A
pair of love struck elephants releases their krathong early at Nong Nooch
Tropical Garden.
Sattahip District Chief Chaichan Iamcharoen and Najomtien Sub-district President
Sornchai Thongyangyoen will headline the Oct. 31 festivities that will include a
Miss Noppamas parade and a baby elephant that will release a giant krathong into
a nearby marsh.
Nong Nooch Marketing Director Jiraporn Sudorn said at an Oct. 15 press
conference the Halloween Day event was intentionally scheduled before Loy
Krathong on Nov. 2 so it would not conflict with Sattahip and Pattaya’s
city-sponsored festivals. It’s aimed at tourists arriving early for the popular
holiday who can’t get enough of the colorful water festival.
PILC members enjoy cool oceans breezes at Royal Varuna Yacht Club

Founded in 1957, the history of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club is,
virtually, the history of yacht racing, sailing and cruising in Thailand. With
Walter Meyer as the first Flag Commodore and Prince Bhisadej in charge of the
sailing program, the Varuna Marine Club opened at a beautiful seaside villa in
Pattaya. The new club was located next to the only restaurant, at the southern
end of the Pattaya strip. The journey from Bangkok in those days was a marathon
drive of up to six hours, with a car ferry across the Bang Prakong River.
Thankfully, the journey there is a little easier these days and what a beautiful
oasis, nestled on the beach at Pratamnak in the midst of Pattaya. It was an
idyllic setting and certainly a relaxed atmosphere to host the October coffee
morning. Eighty five ladies from the Pattaya International Ladies Club enjoyed
the coffee and tea and the abundant flowing food on offer - with the carrot cake
to die for. Despite the busy chatter that continued through the morning the
waves lapping at the shore were a constant reminder of the beautiful setting.
PILC
donated mattresses for the new houses at the Child Protection and Development
Centre.
As usual Gillian Thom, president, made regular announcements about the club’s
activities. One of them being the upcoming Gala Ball on Saturday November 14 at
the Amari Orchid Hotel. For PILC, this is the event of the year, being the
biggest fundraiser and this year promises to be just as fun and grand as
previous years with the “Live and Let’s Dine - Bond Style” theme. Tickets are
still available, priced at 2,900 baht for the 5 course dinner, free flow beer
and wine, entertainment and a chance to mingle with the special agent himself.
For reservations, please contact Kavita Lamba on 087 618 5117 (salsakavita
@hotmail.com) or Chantal Oldaker on 087 824 5268 ([email protected]).
One of the aims of the PILC is to provide continual support to its regular
charitable organizations in Pattaya as well as new ones. The Child Protection
and Development Centre is a project that PILC have been supporting since its
inception in May 2008 when it was just a few boys in a muddy field trying to
knock some timber shacks together on a small plot of land. It has since moved to
a new permanent location and brought along all the timber structures that were
designed to be movable and made the startling addition of three solid concrete
houses. These houses were funded by the Swiss (one house) and German (two
houses) Embassies at a cost of 500,000 baht each. The project is now able to
support 45 children. PILC donated 35 sets of mattresses, pillows and blankets as
well as some clothes drying racks, shoe racks and food supplies. Representatives
from PILC went along to the official opening of the Child Protection and
Development Centre on Saturday October 10.
Anyone wanting to join the group, or who would like more information about its
various activities, should contact Gillian Thom on 081 762 6003 or email

German Ambassador to Thailand Dr. Hanns Schumacher tapped the first beer
barrel at the opening of the German food-exhibition at Villa Market October 10.
The Navy band welcomed him and the other guests of honor, amongst them the owner
of Villa Market Pisit Poosanakhom, Martin Klose, the vice-director of the German
chamber of commerce, Councilor Rattanachai Sutidechanai, and Stefan Gorsler,
managing director of F.G. Far Eastern.

Lots of appetizers were served with good German wine and German beer.
Stefan Gorsler of S.G. Far Eastern Ltd. introduced the German ambassador as well
as the concept of the German food-exhibition to the guests. After that Dr.
Schumacher took to the podium and presented one of his trademark speeches,
serious but still with tongue in cheek, perfectly fitting for the occasion. He
said it is an honor for him to take the function of the Lord Mayor of Munich to
tap the beer barrel. “I know about the importance to the many Germans in
Thailand to eat German food, but as far as I know, many Thais like it as well.”
Villa Market’s owner, Pisit Poosanakhom, said that he was very proud to welcome
the German ambassador to this event. “It puts the German exhibition even more in
the limelight, because you, your excellency, are present,” he said.
Chamber Vice-Director Martin Klose said that it is very important for both
countries to maintain good economic collaboration and he hopes this will
continue in the future.
Pattaya city councilor Rattanachai Sutidechanai said that he is happy to finally
taste German food, since he never had the chance before. “And what I tasted here
at Villa Market, I liked a lot,” he said.
After all the speeches, it was time to tap the beer barrel, which the ambassador
did in style. All people present enjoyed another cool glass of beer before they
went through the market to take a look at all the goodies.
Villa Market is on Second Road almost opposite the Royal Garden Plaza.
