This weekend’s Pattaya Marathon will see the debut of three new young tourist ambassadors selected earlier this month after a four-week competition.

Assumption Sriracha School ACS1 students Tanawat Thanamul, 12, Warot Srisunhorn, 14, and 15-year-old Panthakan Charinyakorn won the title of Pattaya Young PR Ambassadors, beating out a field of 225 area youths who entered the contest June 5. Contestants were grouped into teams of three and gradually eliminated after rounds of knowledge exams and public-speaking drills.

Big smile, big hopes, good performance.
In the end, 10 teams made it to the July 3 finals at Central Center in North Pattaya. They dueled in a “singing, acting and dancing” exercise and faced a battery of questions. With supporters cheering their favorite teams, it made for a lively event.
The contest boiled down to three teams - Assumption, the Amazing Pattaya School 8 Team, and the Hermit Crab Team - with the winner set to be decided by who could spell out Pattaya’s initiatives to revive tourism. But all three teams got the correct answer, vexing the judges and requiring a playoff. Assumption’s squad won with a clever and humorous answer that suggested that city officials should get out themselves and pick up trash.

The youngsters are certainly knowledgeable of tradition.
The team format was a first for the 4th annual Young PR Ambassador contest. But, as in previous years, the winners will spend a year appearing at big events and making public appearances to promote tourism in Pattaya. The first assignment for the new envoys will be Sunday’s Pattaya Marathon.
Contest judge Yotsathorn Nongkhunoi said the Assumption School team won over the judges not only because of their answers, but because of their poise and visible team spirit.

Each winning student received an honorary certificate, trophy and 25,000 baht scholarship. Members of second-place Hermit Crab and third-place Amazing Pattaya won 15,000 baht and 10,000 baht scholarships, respectively.
Samita Polmor won the Young Star Prize. The Best Talent price went to Thipawan Busabongphaithun and the Best Orator award went to Tanawat Tanamul. They received certificates and 2,000 baht scholarships.
Proclaiming the event a big success, Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome said the city will continue to support and expand the project, but likely move it next year to take place during school holidays.

It’s all happening at the Jesters Children’s Fair

“So let us not talk falsely now
The hour is getting late”
(Bob Dylan)
As of today, the Fair is only 58 days away!

That’s right! Sunday, September 13th is rapidly approaching and the planning for the event is now in a ‘Full Tilt Boogie’ mode, like the memorable performances of Janis Joplin. Once again our yearly family outing will be held at the Diana Garden Resort and Driving Range just off North Pattaya Road for the 8th consecutive year.
“There’s music at the fair
and all your friends are there,
And the candy floss you had
And your mother and your dad.”
[sic] (Neil Young)
Already on board is Horseshoe Point with their customary pony rides and novel skittering capsules across the water. This will be co-located with the extremely popular Pop’s Cool Zone for young budding and skillful musicians. Clough and GeckoTech are already organizing their climbing wall again and the Pattaya Sports Club has once again donated a generous 40,000 baht for the purchase of fabulous children’s raffle prizes.

Of course the colossal bouncy castle with massive slide will be there again, along with the children’s arcade with multiple games and rides. Moreover, specially organized kids’ team games will be central on the grounds throughout the day to provide yet more fun and prize-giving.
And then don’t forget the 100+ stalls that will be there offering world-wide cuisine, more children’s activities, candy floss, ice cream, knick knacks, handicrafts, foot massages, including Jamesons’ extensive selection of second hand books.
Then on the stage there will be a full contingent of performers in the realms of music, dance, display, acrobatics and comedy.
What’s more you too can join in the preparation for it all by providing fun and help, especially with advertising, stall-renting and entertaining:
Money’s too tight to mention
Oh money, money, money, money
Money’s too tight to mention
” (Simply Red)

We feel the same as Mick Hucknell too, but then sometimes even in tight times it helps to advertise your business in order to make to make money, money, money. Advertising in our Fair Souvenir Program is also regarded as a donation and helps us cover our printing costs at the same time. Half page color ads are only 4000 baht, while a full color page (6" x 8.25") is 7500 baht.
“‘Cause summer’s here and the time is right for renting a stall, boy
“[sic]. Apologies to M. Jagger and K. Richards, but we like to think they would approve of the slight change to their lyrics for our purposes. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fair Day, non-food stalls are only 1500 baht, while food stalls are 2500 baht. School stalls are free. You can do this online by visiting our website at www.care4kids.info. Remember September, “it’s just akiss away”, so be a stall-renting man today!
He was playing real good, for free” (Joni Mitchell)
We are presently looking for more individuals or groups for our stage program to provide family-orientated entertainment. If interested in donating your time and talent, like Joni’s lyrics above, please email us at: [email protected]
“Every picture tells a story, don’t it?”
(Rod Stewart)
Enough words already. We feel a visit back to 2007 will ‘tickle your fair nerves’ [sic] (Taj Mahal) and get you in the mood. The following is a photo montage from our 2007 Fair courtesy of Star Photo, the Double A Team and Khun Ning.
In the meantime, please remember that all this upcoming fun helps the needy kids too. In fact, many of them will be there. Hope to see you there too! “With the barkers and the colored balloons…” (Neil Young)

Asalaha Bucha Day is one of the most sacred days in Buddhism and every year Satit Udomseuksa School welcomes parents, students and friends of all cultures to join and give merit.

Traditional Thai dancers.

This day traditionally is to commemorate the day on which Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon to his first five chief disciples more than two thousand five hundred years ago. This year the school invited 29 monks from Wat Jittapawan Temple, Banglamung to present offerings, listen to the sermons and prayers given. The students and staff of Satit Udomseuksa School worked extremely hard in the organization of this event with a colorful procession of traditional dance and live music from our very own students. We hope that next year more people from the Pattaya community will join us in making merit.
