to see eclipse July 22
Thailand
residents will be among the world’s lucky few in range to see the century’s
longest solar eclipse July 22.
As much as 60 percent of the sun’s surface will be shadowed by the moon over
Thailand between 7 - 9:30 a.m. Those in the Pattaya area will see a 42
percent eclipse starting at 7:06 a.m. and finishing at 8:03 a.m.
The National Institute for Astronomy in Prachinburi said the 240 km shadow
would give one of the longest-lasting solar eclipses in history and be
visible in India, Pakistan, China, Burma, Thailand and Japan. Those lucky
enough to be on a South Pacific island will be treated to a rare total

PCEC elects new board

The Sunday meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club got
underway at the Amari’s Henry J. Beans Restaurant on Sunday, July 5. Master
of Ceremonies Richard Silverberg welcomed everyone to the Sunday meeting. He
then announced that since this was the first Sunday in July, it was the
Annual General Meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club.

Candle parade lights up Buddhist Lent in Sattahip

Hoping to provide illumination for monks both physically and
spiritually before they retreat from view for three months, Sattahip
students, city workers and residents showcased a parade of beautiful candles
before presenting them to area temples for Buddhist Lent.

“Nong Dao” Siriporn Kaewduang-Ngam won a windsurfing gold
medal at the inaugural Asian Youth Games held from June 29 – July 7 in
Singapore.

Admiral’s Pub and Restaurant (Jomtien)

Many years ago there was a popular venue right at the end of Soi Whitehouse in
Jomtien, called the Admiral’s Pub and Restaurant. As time progressed and Soi
Whitehouse began to become a battlefield, it just became too hard to get to the
end of the soi, and the Admiral’s Pub disappeared from public view. However, the
Admiral had not gone down with his ship.
