The June networking evening for the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT) was held at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, with additional sponsorship from Brooklands Executives, represented by their MD Barry Willmore.

(L to R) Roy Lau, marketing communication manager for the Royal Cliff Beach Resort; and Rudolk Roithmayr, senior sales manager, Europe (Leisure) for the Royal Cliff Beach Resort welcomes guests to the event.
There was no doubting that the Royal Cliff can present a professional event after this networking evening. The Promenade Lounge was set up with hot and cold food stations, the beverage waiters and waitresses were everywhere, executive chef Walter Thenisch was everywhere, Roy Lau, the new marketing communications manager was meeting everyone, new GM Joachim Grill put in an appearance and the ever-smiling deputy GM Ranjith Chandrasiri gave a short address and was also on hand to make sure everything, and I mean ‘everything’, went correctly.
Barry Willmore from Brooklands Executives was another who kept his speech short, but was very pleased to report that his company was already getting firm orders for executive placements in the Interim Management arena.

(L to R) Matthew Fryar, director of revenue management for Sheraton Pattaya Resort; Kerati Chantaravisutlert, director of sales for the Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa; and Arran Ayres, sales & marketing manager Europe for the Royal Cliff Beach Resort.
From the BCCT side, executive director Greg Watkins was his usual ‘greg’arious self and he was ably assisted by board member Simon Matthews (Manpower), who remembered not to wear the pink shirt he wore to the AustCham evening.
With the good food and ample wine, there was nobody who did not enjoy the evening. It was also a welcome back to Pattaya for Judy Hoppe who had just endured a nightmare trip from the US, including five hours on the plane and a change of crew, and it hadn’t even left the airport! If you have a spare five hours, ask Judy about it, and her stop-over at Narita airport in a luxury one star hotel!

(L to R) Paul Wilkinson, general manager, Eastern Seaboard for AGS Four Winds International Movers Limited; and Ron Keeley, managing director of the World of Wine.
One of the happiest folk was Santa Fe’s business development manager Kevin Morgenstern, whose mother Marjorie did not star in the 1958 film of the same name, who gladdened the heart of PMTV’s Paul Strachan by saying he enjoyed the program and it should be beamed to Bangkok.
Another happy chappie was John Howarth, the senior consultant for Montpelier (wealth management and tax planning), who thought he had won a sex change operation in the lucky draw at the previous BCCT event at the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, but was later relieved to find that it wasn’t - it was a check-up package!

(L to R) Paul Strachan; Barry Willmore, managing director for South East Asia of Brooklands Executives Limited; and Dr. Iain Corness.
The networking evening was also joined by the top man at the Pattaya Mail, Peter Malhotra, back in action after a year touring Thailand for Rotary International. Welcome back, Peter, you have been sorely missed.
Maurice Bromley and his sparkling wife Renita (see, I got it right this time) were there, plus the lovely Duangmanee Yantawattana (Apple), from the Sheraton’s marketing communications, who sneaked in past the Royal Cliff’s security by batting her eyelashes at everybody.

(L to R) Paul Strachan; Ranjith Chandrasiri, deputy general manager of the Royal Cliff Beach Resort; and Dr. Iain Corness smile for the PMTV camera.
A networking evening anywhere - Pattaya or Chiang Mai - would not be the same without AA Insurance Broker’s Peter Smith, though his henchman Malcolm Scorer was absent on this occasion, while another stalwart was Paul (I can move it) Wilkinson (AGS Four Winds) along with Salam (just Relax) Hoshang from Asian University.
It was also good to see some new faces at the event, including Suwat Rerksujarit, the GM of Thai Health Insurance and Anuwat Sanguansappayakorn (say that after a couple of red wines), the chief finance officer of Loxinfo.
It really was a first class evening, and everyone hopes that the BCCT can return to the Royal Cliff Beach Resort sometime soon!

(L to R) Simon Matthews, director of the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand; Clive Butcher, chief financial officer of Wright Company Recruitment Ltd.; Ian Grout, M.A. (Oxford University) teacher of economics and head of International Relations at Harrow International School.

(L to R) Pornthip Saengrat, sales manager, East Coast for the Royal Cliff Beach Resort; Kusuma Bualuang; Warisa Raktham, sales supervisor with Colliers International; and Mark Bowling, sales manager with Colliers International.

(L to R) Terrence Allen Collins, project manager for The Vineyard; Pepsi; Patrick Eger from Katalyna Development & Holding Co., Ltd; and Ken Gibbons.

(L to R) Greg Watkins, executive director of the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand; John Howarth, MLIA (Dip), senior consultant for Montpelier (Thailand) Ltd.; Nicholas Henley, managing director of Talent Technologies; and Joe Barker-Bennet.

(L to R) Cees Cuijpers (KC) managing director of Town & Country Property; Brett; Ron Keeley, managing director of the World of Wine; Shaun; Edward Tracy; and John Black, managing director of Real Estate Magazine Thailand.

Once again there was a good turnout for the Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC) monthly food drop last week.
Once we picked up the 40 bags, each containing 3 kilos of rice, 6 cans of sardines, 1 large bottle of cooking oil, 1 large bottle of fish sauce, and 8 packets of Mama noodles, from the Fountain Of Life Centre, then we were off.

A bit of rain didn’t dampen these women’s spirits.

Two of the older boys from the Fountain Of life centre came along also, which I love. These kids come from such poverty themselves, and it’s great to see them helping and understanding that it’s good to give, despite having nothing themselves. The children from FOL also pack the bags for us, so again this is a good lesson in math and humanity.
Our first stop was to Kate’s Project, and we were all delighted to have Andrew and Roisin here in Thailand, the directors of this fantastic project come along with us also.
We gave bags to 15 families onsite at Kate’s and then trekked out to 5 more families in the slum areas of Mabprachan. Once again we were all welcomed with smiles and gratitude from these lovely people.
Our next stop was Khun Jars Independent Living Centre. He now has 40 children, with plans to extend the living quarters. It’s a great project. Things were looking good, with the development coming along nicely. Most of the kids are back at school and the ones that cannot attend school were busy with hammers helping the work in progress.
From here we went to the AIDS Home, Bahn Rak Peun. Once again we were welcomed with the food bags. This project has lost sponsorship due to the economic climate and we were pleased to be able to offer what we could.
The food drop is a fantastic project that PILC does every month. The funds are raised solely from the lunch raffles we have. So as you can see every member gets a hand in to help out the welfare projects, and for that I say a big cheery THANK-YOU LADIES!
Ingrid, Welfare.

June 16 was a beautiful clear morning - perfect for the view atop the A-1 Hotel overlooking Pattaya Beach. And with eighty two ladies in attendance the room was abuzz! While the ladies enjoyed coffee and snacks, Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC) president, Gillian Thom bid farewell to Shelby Godfrey Bonner. But while Shelby will be greatly missed, especially by her Thursday bowling buddies, PILC welcomed two new members.
Fruits of several of our major fund raising projects, the Gala Ball and the Holiday Bazaar, were presented to Liz Shepperd and Dianne Doell from the Mercy Center. A check for the amount of 90,000 baht will provide scholarship funds for 40 children from the Center, supporting them with books, uniforms, etc.
An additional 19,000 baht check was presented, raised by our PILC Book Club participants who opted to make 100 baht contributions at each monthly meeting. The group collected enough for 10 more scholarships!
The scholarship project is one of the projects undertaken by the Mercy Center, which is made possible through the various donations from abroad and PILC.
For anyone wanting to join the group or who would like more information about PILC, please contact President Gillian Thom on 081 762 6003 or email [email protected].
