Longing for condo law oversight
Editor;
Some condo owners are wondering why they have to suffer for years under
unscrupulous developer-manager teams. Condo law means nothing to these
corrupt people who have neglected upkeep and development with impunity. They
refuse to call general meetings, they appoint committees and dismiss them
without notice, they ignore suggestions, and requests for outside audits are
ignored.
Lawyers consulted by condo owners are fearful of taking on what seem like
mafia organizations. It is perfectly clear that some people with loads of
money and influence are in control. They are a law unto themselves.
Why wouldn’t it be possible and legal and appropriate for some government
person to appoint a person well versed in condo law to visit condos, make
inspections, and make reports that will lead to correction of any unholy
situations? Surely any malfeasance could be dealt with under the provisions
of the Condo Act of 1979 (amended 2008), or section 353 of the penal code.
Is corruption so endemic that our prayers will never be heard?

Mind numbed answers Numb Brain
Editor;
I don’t expect someone who had the standard lobotomy procedure at
Suvarnabhumi to understand my letter. I was not calling anyone for taking a
Thai bride, far from it. They make good wives, unless you take up with a
prostitute and then it’s like a lottery. The letter was more intended to the
brain dead tourists who spend thousands of pounds on a woman that they have
only just met, one who they are usually paying for sex. I suppose I hit a
nerve with Numb Brain because maybe the penny has dropped and he realises
it’s his wallet she loves. After all, if that first 1000 baht hadn’t have
been exchanged for a good time, would brain dead be married now? I think we
know the answer to that. Alas, true love!

Get over it
Dear Editor;
I checked out Ken’s letter of May l5 and not only found that Bob had
underestimated Obama’s popularity after l00 days in office, but that Obama’s
popularity has since even gone up. His approval rating since the first l00
days has been 66 percent. Not bad for a president who according to Bob is
the most divisive president in modern history!
I read numerous letters by Bob during the presidential campaign and Bob is
clearly the Sean Hannity of Pattaya. If Obama could walk on water Bob would
say: “Obama can’t swim”! If tomorrow Dow Jones goes up to 20,000 and
unemployment in America drops to l percent, Bob will say if only McCain was
president the Dow Jones would be 30,000 and unemployment would be zero
percent.
Listen Bob, McCain got his butt kicked. Get over it!

Looking forward to Cross Bay Swim
Dear Sir,
I am pleased to announce this year’s Cross Pattaya Bay Swim, organised by
the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya, will take place on 15th November. This
is the swim’s sixth year, and during that time has become one of the major
local fun and sports annual events, supported by the mayor and Pattaya City
Council.
It is now attracting some very prestigious sponsors, including Thai Airways,
the Dusit Thani and Hard Rock Hotel. However, more sponsors are needed and
companies are invited to take part by having their name or logo on all
publicity material, etc., so increasing their public image and promoting
their business. Private sponsors are also welcome.
Those wishing to take part in the event are invited to volunteer and there
are, in fact, two swims. A 3.5 km swim across the Bay, and a 1.1 km
shoreline swim. All age groups are accepted.
The funds raised are used to benefit the underprivileged, with emphasis on
children’s welfare. As with the normal custom of Rotarians giving their time
and efforts completely free, every baht realised will go to worthy causes,
with none being taken for salaries or lavish expenses.
For more information please call Graham Hunt-Crowley on 08 1340 8852 or
email: [email protected]
Yours faithfully,
Chris Gibbins

Censorship
Editor;
Please someone explain to me the logic in Thai broadcasting censorship? They
distort a cigarette in someone’s mouth but not in their hand. They distort a
woman’s breasts, even a man’s bottom. All this does is promote children into
thinking that a breast is to be hidden at all times, confusing him when he
reaches adulthood.
They distort someone firing a gun, or drinking alcohol. But, allow wide
spread violence, swearing, and the TV video cameras in with the police at a
fatal accident/death.

Reading Polling Data
Dear Editor,
I feel bad for “Bob” who wrote you a letter last week about American
President Barack Obama.
He’s confused.
Having an approval rating of more than 50 percent doesn’t make you
unpopular. That means MORE people approve of you than not. New math and all.
Maybe a comparison will help Bob. Former President Bush’s final approval
rating was 22 percent. Now THAT’S unpopular.
See how it works?
