Students and teachers from the Ratana Technology School in Buriram
Province called into our office to see a busy newspaper at work on September
5.
Primprao Somsri, management and marketing, led Pattaya Mail staff members in
welcoming the young visitors and walked them through the process of
publishing our weekly newspaper. Along the way they inspected the news
section, computer graphics and marketing.
The 50 third-year vocational students and their teachers were on a 3-day
educational tour of the region which took them also to Mae Rampung Beach in
Rayong and the Marine Science Museum at Burapha University in Chonburi.
The students are members of the “Club for the Future of Thailand” at their
school and their outing aims to introduce future career paths.
Teacher Duangduan Khuankam said that the group was interested in the work of
Pattaya Mail because it produces a good newspaper both in English and
German, plus the Chiangmai Mail in the north.
“This newspaper has been operating a long time and has contributed to the
growth of mass media in Chonburi. It has maintained a neutral position and
has always continued to support its community very well,” she said.

TNT Express Worldwide (Thailand) Co Ltd in cooperation with
International Rotary presented a water filtration system worth more than
100,000 baht to Banglamung Kindergarten School in Ban Rong Poh on
September 7.
Yeah!
We are going to have clean drinking water now.
The presentation ceremony was led by Chonburi Deputy Governor Komsan
Ekachai along with Alan Miu, country general manager of TNT Express
Worldwide (Thailand) Co and Alex Mavro, representing International
Rotary.
Miu said that TNT, as with International Rotary, has a community policy
of supporting the health of youngsters that includes provision of clean
drinking water. The first water filtration system to have been funded
and presented had been in Nakhorn Ratchasima Province.
Banglamung
students rise up in thanks for the new water filter system.
“This project was initiated on April 1, 1997 in Nakhorn Ratchasima
Province, and it gradually spread to many communities throughout the
country via the TNT Express offices,” he said. “The water filtration
system uses the standard reverse osmosis method and is able to produce
350 liters of clean drinking water per day.”
Mavro said that provision of clean drinking water for the community is
one of International Rotary’s main projects and that working with TNT
has enabled the successful installation of water filtration systems in
many areas.
Mongkol Yaemkasem, director of Banglamung Kindergarten School said
students from the kindergarten level to secondary school class 3 would
use the system. Currently the school has 1,000 students, and most of
them are from the Rong Poh Market area. Their families are mostly poor
with their parents working as laborers.
Youngsters put on a
synchronized Thai boxing performance for the guests.
Regent’s Secondary students walk 15 km for Croston
House Children’s Home

On Friday September 5, locals of Lake Mabprachan and golfers in Siam
Country Club Plantation witnessed an astonishing sight as 500 determined
students, teachers and parents from the Regent’s School devoted their
day to walking 15 km from the Regent’s School on Highway 36 to the new
Siam Country Club Plantation Golf Course.
Mr.
Glenn and Khun Chai under the Regents Clock Tower.
The main reason for this unusual event is a man called Glenn Croston who
inspired us to assist him on part of his 1,400 km walk across Thailand,
from Banglamung to his Children’s Home in Lamphun near Chiang Mai. His
motivation for this challenge is to raise money to buy the land and a
pick-up for his life-project, Croston House Children’s Home, which is an
open house for deprived and homeless children <http://www.croston
housechildrenshomethailand .org/>
Mr.
Glenn and Monsieur Delhommeau lead the Year 7s along the 15 km route.
The Regent’s School has been involved in helping Croston House for over
a year now and has played friendly rugby games with them. In Round
Square week of term 3 last academic year students even had the
opportunity to visit Croston House and learn more about the children who
live there. It was a heart warming experience for both us and the
children and we were inspired to support Mr. Glenn and his children for
many more years to come.
We started our walk at 9am on Friday. Each person was equipped with a
litre water bottle and we set off in groups along the dirt roads behind
our school. We had regular breaks to refill with water and those who
needed the toilet! Soon we reached public roads but we had police
escorts and motorists who were very kind, and happy to let us past
first.
The weather was sunny and the walk was tiring but with hard-willed
determination and encouragement from each other we managed to continue.
The skies rewarded us with much appreciated clouds and a cool breeze
later in the afternoon. We knew we were safe from exhaustion, however,
with our vehicle support which was always on close hand. Many thanks to
the Regent’s Thai support staff who kept us safe and healthy all day.
The end of the walk came with relief and a real sense of achievement as
all 500 people reached the impressive new club house at the Plantation
golf course where free drinks were offered and smiles were shared. Many
thanks to Khun Chai and his staff at Siam Country Club for all their
support.
The walk is expected to raise over 100,000 baht through sponsorship and
will be donated to Mr. Glenn in November sometime when he has finished
his long walk all the way to Lamphun. If you would like to donate to
sponsor money for the Croston House Charity Walk or support any of
Regent’s other Round Square projects please contact

Bishop, director of operations for the Eastern Seaboard division of
Raimon Land handed over the filtration equipment worth 120,000 baht to

Chonburi Province.
(L
to R) Nilumol Pradabporn, Gerard Porcon, Rajneeporn Bishop, Donald
Maclachlan and Robert Brown cut the ribbon to officially open the
project.
Brown said that the budget for this water filtration system was raised
at the last charity golf tournament that the Rotary Club had organized.
In addition, Rotarians presented five scholarships of 1,500 baht each to
students with good scholastic results but who come from underprivileged
families who are unable to meet the costs of their education.
Nilumol Pradabporn, deputy director of Ban Pong Saket School said the
school currently has more than 600 students and that the water
filtration system is a vital addition to the facilities. The school
however, is still in need of support from government and private
organizations. “We also urgently need more classrooms,” she said.

Rotary Club Jomtien - Pattaya
Every year Rotary International has a theme. Two years ago it was “Lead
the Way”, last year it was “Rotary Shares” and this year it is “Make
Dreams Real”.
The foreign speaking Rotary Clubs in Pattaya are living up to all three
themes in raising money for this year’s 5th Cross Bay Swim.
Last year this annual event, organised by the Rotary Club of
Jomtien-Pattaya, raised 500,000 baht. These funds were combined with
donations from fellow local Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard and Rotary Club
Pijnacker - Nootdorp, the Netherlands, and further supported by Rotary
International with a matching grant, enabling them to jointly install
clean water systems at 21 schools in Rayong and Chonburi provinces.
Many other local Rotary Clubs have joined in, for example RC Rayong,
which was involved with 6 of these schools. More recently RC Marina
Pattaya contributed to the installation of a clean water system at the
Baan Tung Ka School in Huay Yai, of which the handover took place on
Saturday September 12.
Last year the main fundraising theme of the Cross Bay Swim was “Swim for
Clean Water” - this year it will be “Children Swimming for Children”.
It is the intention of RC Jomtien-Pattaya to once again join forces with
even more local and international Rotary Clubs to undertake a wide range
of humanitarian activities to help the underprivileged children in our
communities and district. Rotary Clubs Eastern Seaboard and Taksin
Pattaya have already pledged to be Gold Sponsors for the swim for this
purpose and even more clubs are likely to follow.
This year up to 100 children and youthful adults will participate in the
swim.
Join them in making their effort in swimming for underprivileged
children even more worthwhile by sponsoring the Cross Bay Swim. Your
donation will be matched by Rotary and will be put to a good cause!
