The Charity Club of Pattaya’s Clothing Appeal: In preparation of the cold weather hitting the north of Thailand, the Charity Club of Pattaya will be collecting clothing, shoes and blankets for the people and children of Esarn. Clubs & Associations

The next meeting of Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, August 19. The Club meets every Sunday morning at Henry J. Bean’s Restaurant on the north end of Beach Road in the grounds of the Amari Orchid Resort. The program starts as usual at 10:30am with a buffet breakfast available from 9:30 to 11am. Everyone is warmly welcome. This week the main speaker will be Dr Somchai Trakoolshokesatian from the Lasik and SuperSight Centre of Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. Dr Somchai will provide a full account of SuperSight surgery and eye care in general. This will be followed by the lively Open Forum and update on happenings in and around Pattaya. The Pattaya International Ladies Club August Coffee Morning will be held on Tuesday August 21 at La Luna from 10.30am onwards. La Luna is located on 3rd Road just opposite the Embassy Pub, about 200 metres from the traffic light at Pattaya Nua. All members, guests and ladies of all nationalities are welcome. No reservation required.

For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone. The Royal British Legion, Chonburi Thailand Branch is now up and running at Tropical Bert’s. You do not have to have served in H.M. armed services to join as long as you support the principles of the Legion you are more than welcome. All members receive a 15% discount every day at the bar and we have a get together every Sunday lunch (free food). Jameson’s Irish Pub has introduced a new Wednesday three-course ‘Quick Service’ special for 185 baht: Home made soup, mixed salad, or mussels ‘vinai’ (cooked in their shells with butter, garlic & herbs). Steak and mushroom pie (cooked in a beer sauce) with crisp french-fries followed by dessert - a choice of two items, depending upon the chef’s mood! This new three-course Wednesday special is served from 12 Noon till 11pm. Asian University will present a half-day public lecture on Tuesday, August 21 by Mr. Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff, the chief executive officer of Proton in Malaysia.
