Pattaya’s lights keep getting brighter

Pattaya is in the midst of a transformation that shows no signs of abating
now Suvarnabhumi Airport has opened, cutting drive time to the destination
from two-and-a-half to one-and-a-half hours.
The
Amari Orchid Resort & Tower: an exciting example of the new Pattaya.
A project to beautify the Beach Road shoreline has begun, while several
high-end condominium developments and two shopping centres under
construction also indicate the level of confidence in Pattaya’s future.
Sheraton Pattaya Resort general manager, Mr. David Cuddon, said leading
travel trade figures in the city recently held a meeting to discuss ways to
promote the city in light of all these developments.
“There was good growth in 2004 and 2005. This year is looking very promising
- the first quarter was outstanding. Everyone is looking forward to what the
new airport’s opening will do for Pattaya.’’
New hotel projects in the city include Central Pattaya Beach Resort, Amari
Orchid Resort & Tower’s five-star wing and convention centre,
InterContinental Resort Pattaya and Le Méridien Pattaya Resort.
A number of properties are also undergoing major refurbishments including
Dusit Resort Pattaya and Royal Cliff Beach Resort, which is increasing the
size of its convention facility.
The 555-room, five-star Central Pattaya Beach Resort, slated to open
late-2007, will replace Central Wong Amat Beach Resort.
The four-star Amari Orchid Resort and Tower, which has also been
refurbished, plans to launch its five-star wing in early-2007 and the
freestanding convention centre by year-end.
The convention centre will feature a 400m² pillarless ballroom with a
pre-function area. Amari also opened a standalone restaurant, Mantra, to
much acclaim earlier this year.
Le Méridien Pattaya Resort, slated to open in early-2009, will have 250
rooms, 1,000m² of meeting space, three F&B outlets, a swimming pool and a
spa.
THAI’s premium passengers to increase after Suvarnabhumi opens
Thai Airways International Plc. (THAI) expects the number of its premium
passengers to increase dramatically following the opening of Suvarnabhumi
Airport this week.
THAI applies the title ‘premium passenger’ to those in its royal and first
class seating, and have created a number of amenities for these travellers
at the new airport.
“We believe the number of premium passengers on our flights will increase by
at least ten per cent per year. Right now we serve about 1.3 million of
these passengers each year,” said Wanchai Sarathulthat, transport ministry
permanent secretary and THAI’s board chairman.
He added that THAI is ready to provide its royal and first class passengers
with luxury service and convenience.
The first check-in island, located on the western end of the passenger
terminal, will be dedicated to THAI’s premium travellers. While waiting to
receive their boarding passes, premium passengers will be able to wait in a
specially designated antechamber.
Also located near the first check-in island are five conference rooms and a
spa with a sauna room.
“When everything is ready, premium passengers can use a special gate to
board aircraft too,” said Wanchai. (TNA)
