German Thai Chamber promotes Eastern Seaboard
At the recent Stammtisch (networking night) held by the
German Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC), Stefan Buerkle, GTCC business
development guru, reported that the economic climate in Bangkok is visibly
improving, best illustrated by work having recommenced on several city
buildings after ceasing five years ago when the economy nose-dived.
The
general manager of the Thai Garden Resort, Rene Pisters (left) chats it up
with chief of business economics and GTCC business development guru Stefan
Buerkle.
Buerkle also said that the GTCC is remaining
“bullish” over the Thai market and that the Eastern Seaboard, with its
concentration of German investment industries, is looking particularly
good and is showing excellent growth.
The
Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany sent down Alfred Reichert, the
new third secretary for Consular Affairs, who attended with his wife, Dr.
Beatrice Gorawantschy representing Konrad-Adenaur-Siftung.
The event was well attended with the Bangkok Germans
eagerly discussing business with the local contingent such as Hans
Westphal of Reickermann Thai. The Embassy of the Federal Republic of
Germany also considered the Easter Seaboard meeting to be sufficiently
important as to send down Alfred Reichert, the new third secretary for
Consular Affairs who attended with his wife, Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy
representing Konrad-Adenaur-Siftung.

Pack of “Bastards” slays Shenanigans
The Bangkok based “Bastards” band pumped out a heady,
throbbing heavy metal/punk concert evening last weekend at Shenanigans.
“My Generation” which went over early in the piece, complete with the
obligatory extended digit, seemed to set the tone, with the “generation”
being definitely the 40 to 60 year age group in the main, while the younger
ones stood in wonderment. However, Odyssey International’s young Jason did
attend, complete with a Sid Vicious haircut and a Sex Pistols t-shirt.

metal/punk concert evening last weekend at Shenanigans.
Malcolm Clare and his buddies were noted playing air
guitars all night and are now talking about forming a complete 5-piece air
band. Undoubtedly Harpic Bryant would be prepared to perform out front,
being the shy and retiring lady that Pattaya knows her to be.
However, the music was not to everyone’s taste (or
hearing). Ib Ottesen (Captain’s Corner) did not enjoy the concert,
standing in the back stalls with paper napkins stuck in his ears, but wife
Kannikar seemed more attuned to the volume. Ib claimed anyone who enjoyed
the music must have already gone deaf from previous exposure!
For the dedicated hard rockers, Shenanigans was
definitely the place to be last weekend! As Shenanigans landlord Kim
Fletcher said, “the Bastards were great!”
Pattaya Gay Festival raises funds for HEARTT 2002 Foundation
Laor Thongpradap
Pattaya Gays Club and members of Pattaya’s gay
community held its 2nd annual Pattaya Gay Festival July 4th on Soi Pattaya
Land 3 (Boyztown) between Pattaya Second Road and Beach Road.
Fancy
dressers waiting for their turn in the show.
The area was closed off from 7 p.m. until midnight and
entrance tickets were sold at 300 baht each. Pattaya’s gay community
turned out in force and the festivities and fun included music, dance and
shows staged by gay performers. Tables and chairs lined the streets and many
hundreds of people happily joined in the event.
The street party was a huge success and the highlight of
the evening was the prize giving for ‘best-dressed red, white and blue”
participants. Lucky draws and a grand prize raffle kept merrymakers in
suspense well into the night.
The organizers said that the annual festival is a
fund-raiser for HEARTT2002 Foundation, which was formed to help AIDS
victims. All proceeds from the activities will go to the Foundation.
Organizers also said that in addition to raising funds
the festival also creates a social function and networking venue for the gay
community where gays can share information. Since the number of gay
residents in the city is increasing this helps to promote unity and caring
amongst the group.
During the festival appreciation awards were presented to
Rob Astbury and John Hull who have been generous supporters and contributors
to HEARTT 2002 Foundation since its inception.
