Of course he is confident
Editor;
Re: Top banker optimistic on Thai economic prospects (PM Wednesday, 9 April
2014) - Well of course he is confident. Who wouldn’t be if you took client’s
savings money, gave them 0 to 2% interest and loaned it out at 6 to 15%!

Thousands have
been slaughtered
Editor;
Re: Thailand’s Southern Islamic Federation seeks appeal in Saudi
businessman’s murder case (PM Saturday, 19 April 2014) - The Islamic
Federation seems lopsided on this matter. Thousands of Thai southern folks
have been slaughtered by militants in the south and yet the group carries no
weight in peace initiatives and has failed to improve the quality of life of
Muslims.

Let’s ban eating meat
Editor;
Re: Been called out (PM Mailbag Friday, 11 April 2014) - I absolutely agree
with Mr. Arnone; tobacco smoking is not prohibited in principle, where you
can not smoke specified by law. Why do I need someone to prohibit smoking in
places where it is allowed?
You think about your future child is very good, go for a walk in the park,
on the beaches where the sea air is good. Why do you come to the bar?
Meat for a vegetarian - bad. Let’s ban eating meat.

Out came the tree huggers
Editor;
Re: Pattaya Beach still has problems (PM Mailbag Friday, 25 April 2014) -
Several years ago City Hall came up with a proposal to start a baiting
programe at or near the beach. What great idea. Then out came the “tree
huggers” led by a renowned vegan, claiming rodents have feelings and as one
of God’s creatures had as much right to be here as us.

Killing millions every year
Editor;
Not only is smoking a disgusting, demeaning and stinking habit; it kills
millions every year and almost half a million in the USA alone according to
the surgeon general. It is, indeed, the silent killer.
Mr. Arnone being far more intelligent and better educated than the majority
of smokers may just be unaware of the rudeness, lawlessness and sheer lack
of courtesy exhibited by the typical smoker. However, he obviously has a
mental block when it comes to smoking!
The US surgeon general’s latest report says that despite the many gains in
reducing the risks over the past half century, researchers keep finding new
and insidious ways in which smoking is harming the smokers themselves and
non smokers who breathe in the toxic fumes. Amongst many other things the
report identifies exposure to secondhand smoke as a cause of strokes and
explains that the increase of adenocarcinoma of the lung is the result of
changes in the design of cigarettes.
The growing of tobacco is the same as the growing of poppies in Afghanistan,
Khat in The Yemen and hash in Wales or North Africa and the industry is no
different to the illegal drug business; though it kills far more people and
creates far more disease. Ultimately, governments will have to legislate
against tobacco, restrict it to properly licensed outlets for registered
addicts and prohibit its use in all public places.
