About 1,000 police officers and volunteers will slog through Pattaya April
19 to provide security for the city’s Songkran finale.
Beach Road from the Dolphin Roundabout to Walking Street and up to the
intersection of South and Second Roads will be closed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
for the water fight known as “Wan Lai.” Water supplies will be available at
nine locations along the soggy strip.
The main attraction will be at the Beach and Central roads intersection
where there will be a fountain curtain installed for tourists to enjoy the
beauty and capture images for memories. The fountain curtain will be more
impressive this year with 12 spouts.
Pattaya has coordinated with Banglamung, Nongprue, Pattaya, Tourist and
Highway police, using 425 cops to supervise traffic and safety with 575
Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan medics and civil defense volunteers bolstering
their efforts. There will be checkpoints on main roads including officers on
foot to monitor the safety during the day.
City officials are urging Thai New Year’s revelers to avoid using PVC water
pipes, dress appropriately and take care when applying powder to others.
