Banglamung police get
jump on drunk drivers

Banglamung police tried to get a jump on drunk drivers, setting
up a highway checkpoint where Sukhumvit Road enters Chonburi.
District Chief Sakchai Taengho opened the “Prevention and Reduction of
Road Accidents Center” Dec. 27 with police Superintendent Col. Supachai
Phuikaewkhum and other area politicians.
The station was staffed by local officials, police and volunteers.
Together they stopped vehicles to check for alcohol use, licenses,
registration, helmets and weapons.
“Accidents are also caused by road conditions or damaged traffic signs
resulting in confusion,” Sakchai said. “Therefore, relevant agencies
have to make inspections and changes to provide facilities to citizens.”
He said drivers should also ensure their cars are in good working order
and that they are not too tired or otherwise impaired to drive.
The checkpoint closed Jan. 2.
