A hard-rockin’ Malaysian college student beat out eight competitors from
Thailand, Indonesia and her home country to win the 2013 Ms. Hard Rock Southeast
Asia pageant in Pattaya.
Laureen Quah, a 21-year-old part-time emcee, dancer and college student, was
named the Hard Rock Hotel chain’s Southeast Asian ambassador at the Hard Rock
Cafe Oct. 5. Glady Laksmi from the Hard Rock Hotel Bali took second and Tan Chin
from the Hard Rock Hotel Penang took third. Thailand’s Pakatida Srongprapa won
the “Facebook Favorite Vote” after securing the most “likes” on the Hard Rock
Hotel Pattaya’s Facebook page.
Quah, who also won the Ms. Hard Rock Penang title in September, took home
US$2,430. Laksmi won US$865 and Tan won US$665.
Different from most beauty pageants, the Hard Rock’s contest searches for women
with not only looks, but a deep understanding of music history and style.
Contestants competed in “Rock Style” and “Beach Style” judging before performing
in a talent show and answering questions from judges.
Before taking the stage, however, the nine women handed out lunch boxes to
children at Huay Yai School and participated in the hotel’s “Pinktober” breast
cancer-awareness campaign.

rain.

funds to find the cure along the famous Beach Road, Pattaya.
Contestants participated in the
‘Take Time to Be Kind’ campaign with Hard Rock Pattaya staff, by taking part in
the Lunchbox Project, providing meals for underprivileged kids at Huay Yai
School.
