Alzheimer’s trend up for debate
Editor;
Re: Remembering how to spell Alzheimer’s Disease! (PM - Monday, 01 November
2010) - Thank you for your input on the subject of Alzheimer’s. The
paragraph which states that a person is more likely to develop the disease
if they are not married is quite debatable. I have experience in taking care
of many people with Alzheimer’s and many were married as oppose to being
single. All in all you wrote a very interesting article.

Hijacking in Bangkok
Dear Editor,
The hijacking of two Italian professional tourists by 4 real policemen is a
very serious matter. Not only as a crime but it involves policemen in
regular charge on the Royal Thai Police Institution.
At my knowledge foreign newspapers have widely commented on the episode and
that is not a nice publicity for the department and threatens credibility
and trustworthiness on an institution that is supposed to take care and
protect citizens as well as visitors and tourists.
Rotten eggs are on all sides but this is a case that should be taken in high
consideration by the local authority. It’s not any more a petty deplorable
bribe. It’s a kidnapping for extortion. A hateful crime.
The issue deserves some action to restore credibility and an exemplary
punishment.
Best Regards,
Concerned Farang
Life is short - live it!

Re: PCEC guest relates travel experiences in India (PM Friday, 23 August
2013) -Well done Michelle. Your presentation was very entertaining,
interesting, observant and informative. Keep on living the dream and writing
about your travel experiences. I believe many expats share the same
adventurous spirit when they leave the predictability of their own culture
to live a more layered and textured existence in Pattaya. Life is short -
live life.

Always wear your seatbelts

Re: Passengers on adverse weather-hit flight to be compensated (PM Sunday,

‘seat belts!’, maybe they’ll listen!

Aussie government wasting millions
Editor;
Re: Crazy politicians (PM Friday, 30 August 2013) - For years the government
has wasted millions of $’s propping up these two American companies. They
accept the money then still go ahead and stand workers down. Why would you
buy a vehicle of lesser quality than the imports at an inflated price? GMH
can turn out a V8 commodore, offer it to me for $50,000+ then rebadge it,
ship it to America & sell it for a fraction of our price.
It’s sad that many people will lose their jobs, but it boils down to supply
& demand. Our government raves about our economy, our AAA rating and our 5%
unemployment. They feed us with spin & if they came clean and showed how
they doctor the figures, true unemployment is nearer 10%. Why Peter Geran
even worries about the Vietnam “cyclo industry” going downhill is beyond me.
After this week Australia may have a new government, but don’t expect things
to get better. Same menu but new snouts in the trough.

Why aren’t laws enforced?
Editor;
Re: Rotting durian punctuates garbage mess in South Pattaya (PM Friday, 26
July 2013) - Why isn’t hardly any law enforced? Speeding, parking,
littering, urinating anywhere, anytime, anything goes.

Insane driving like Pattaya

(It’s) Pretty hard to find insane driving like Pattaya in civilized
countries.

Coming back for jazz

be in town for most of October. Hope you will continue.

Are you listening Mr. Mayor?
Editor;
Re: Improve tourist safety (PM Mailbag Friday, 23 August 2013) - It would be
nice to get an answer from the mayor’s office or the police themselves to
explain why they allow this dangerous practice to continue. Tourism is vital
to Pattaya’s economy so surely the safety of tourists should be a priority,
(and) these arrogant motorbike riders are a real threat to pedestrians.
On another subject two Chinese tourists were killed on a speedboat returning
from Koh Larn this week; why are there not speed limits place on these boats
when they get within 500 meters from shore, or perhaps as a guide when they
reach the line of barges? A six knot limit close to shore would avoid many
accidents. How many more tourists must be killed or injured before action is
taken? Perhaps jet skis should have the same limit 100 meters from shore.

No organized crime in Pattaya?
Editor;
Re: Police tow away gang from ‘no parking’ scam (PM Friday, 30 August 2013)
- The officer said it himself, “organized crime gang”. I thought they
cleaned this up in their 30 day blitz. According to senior ranking officers,
Pattaya is mafia free. What a joke. Where did they get the uniforms, I
wonder?

Good suggestions, but with an error
Editor;
Re: Bangkok: Getting a Feel for the Place (PM Sunday, 01 September 2013) -
Nicely written with good suggestions. Just one error. The Sephan Taksin
Skytrain Station is now closed for the rebuilding of the bridge tracks.
Travelers wanting to go to the Chao Phraya tourist boat pier must exit the
Skytrain at Surasak Station and walk to the river pier. Soon they plan to
have moving walkways to make this easier.
