On Monday, 17th June 2013, two of the Secondary School bands of St. Andrews International School, Green Valley campus participated at the ‘Battle of the Bands’ event hosted by Garden International School in Ban Chang. It was a fantastic evening with spectacular performances rendered by the Junior Secondary (Whitejack) and the Senior Secondary (In three words) rock bands.
The audience enjoyed the performances delivered by both bands and the students were excellent ambassadors for the school. The programme consisted of works including ‘Locked out of heaven’ by Bruno Mars, ‘Hot and cold’ by Katy Perry, ‘If you can’t hang’ by Sleeping with Sirens, ‘Final Destination’ by Coldrain and many others.
The highlight of the evening was when it was announced that St. Andrews International School won second position overall for the competition! The head teacher of Garden International School complimented the students on entertaining the guests with their wonderful performances.

Matt, Yutung, Julian and Christian (CJ) giving it their utmost best during their performance.

Amazing Chiang Mai

The Year 6 GIS students had a great time in Chiang Mai.

Nupur and Miriam (Year 6)
Year 6 students from Garden International School (GIS) recently had a fun-filled trip to Chiang Mai.
The first thing they did in Chiang Mai was to climb 300 steps to Prathet Doi Suthep Temple. It was tiring but the temple and views were beautiful. In the evening they visited a Khantoke dinner, where they ate traditional northern Thai food and watched some hilltribe performances.
The next day they went to an elephant camp, where they rode some of the giant animals. After that we went ox cart riding and then saw an elephant show. The students were told how the elephants work in the forest and how they work with their mahouts. After lunch there was time for some bamboo rafting.
After the elephant camp the group went to Wiang Kum Kam - an ancient city that was buried by floods more than 700 years ago. It was interesting to see how they are rebuilding the temples and buildings. For dinner students went to a restaurant by the Mae Ping River.

On the last day in Chiang Mai the students visited an orchid garden. It was very beautiful and colourful and there were lots of treasures to buy. Then they went to the Mae Saa Craft Village and designed their own ‘saa’ paper umbrellas.
Overall, we had a great time and can’t wait to go back!

Garden International School’s Year 11 group had a night to remember as they graduated in style at the Hilton Hotel in Pattaya.
The students, who have just finished their IGCSEs, organised a spectacular night that featured all the students dancing, singing or playing music. MCs Taya and Wee started the evening by introducing students who performed the Tango and were followed by the GIS flute group, a girl band singing ‘Price Tag’ and ‘Beauty and a Beat’ and a contemporary dance performance from Oie and Louisa. The boys also joined in by dancing to ‘Get Outta Your Mind’.

After a delicious international buffet, Year 11 form tutors Mr Baker and Mr Cullen praised the students for their hard work, friendly nature and talents. Some students will now move on, but many will come back to make up what will be Garden’s biggest-ever International Baccalaureate year group, starting in August.

Each month the members of Lions Club Pratamnak Hill visit a local school or charitable organisation in the local Pattaya area to donate goods that are in need.
For this month, June, the members visited the Redemptorist Vocational School for People with Disabilities and made a donation of five thousand baht in cash, 750kg of rice, and a large amount of eggs, cooking oil and milk. Second hand televisions were also donated and which will be used to train the students in the electrical repair workshop.
The month of June is also when several members of the Lions Club celebrate their birthdays so they generously treated the students to a special birthday meal.

The students were grateful for their special lunch.
