The drivers of two boats involved in last month’s collision of two
speedboats off Koh Larn are pointing fingers at each other, denying they
caused the accident that injured 18 South Korean tourists along with a South
Korean tour guide and a Thai guide.
Amnuay Kladkhemthong, driver of the Sor Khemthong, and Rung-arun Homlamduan,
driver of the Kor Nongmai 7, turned themselves in to police two days after
the wreck 800 meters of Tawaen Beach. Crewman Latthapol Sonphu, 31, turned
himself in with Rung-arun.
Both drivers were charged with reckless driving and fleeing the scene of an
accident. Rung-arun denied the reckless driving charges, claiming Amnuay was
at fault.
The Nongmai 7 crewmembers said the Khemthong rammed the side of their boat,
throwing the Korean tourists into the water. Witnesses reported, however,
that Amnuay’s Khemtong vessel was parked and taking on fuel. That boat
suffered only minor damage to its bow.
