Nongprue farmers prep banana trees for Loy Krathong

Buarat Spindee says she and her
family plants banana trees every year for Loy Krathong.
Vittaya Yoondorn
Nongprue villagers have begun cutting banana tree branches into logs
that will be cut into flower boats for Loy Krathong.
The tree pieces will be soaked in water, cut into logs, and skinned into pieces
to be sold at wholesale markets and to flower shops for the Nov. 28 holiday.
Buarat Spindee, 43, said she and her family plants banana trees every year and
occasionally buys from neighbors to sell the wood at market for Loy Krathong.
She said she also keeps some to sell herself, along with flowers she buys at
local shops.
Buarat encouraged locals and Thais to celebrate Loy Krathong at the Mabprachan
Reservoir after 6 p.m., taking time to visit Khao Pothong Temple to make merit
before floating their krathongs in the lake.
