BANGKOK, 31 Jan 2014,  Suvarnbabhumi International Airport has come up with special treats for passengers using the airport during the Chinese New Year, according to Ms. Weerawan Netarakavessana, the Airport Director.

The airport, in its bid to create a memorable impression and confidence, has instructed its staff to dress up in beautiful traditional Chinese outfits. They will also hand an orange, a symbol of luck to each passenger. To further create an authentic Chinese ambiance, the airport’s passenger terminals have been decorated with Chinese furniture, and to top it all off, passengers will also be greeted by a lion dance performance.

The airport expects to welcome a total of 2 million visitors, or 156,000 passengers daily, during January 27th to February 8th. Ms. Weerawan has, however, admitted that this year’s number of passenger during the Chinese festive season is significantly lower than last year’s. There were 658 additional flights requesting for permission to land.

According Ms. Weerawan, out of the said number, China Eastern Airlines has made the most landing requests. Chinese, Russian and Japanese are the top 3 nationals traveling to Thailand. The airport has adjusted down the target growth of the number of foreign passengers visiting Thailand from 10% to 2%, she said. However, she reassured that once the political situation returned to normal, the airport would immediately start a promotional campaign to regain travelers’ confidence. /
